Show Gardens

If you would like to exhbit at the show this year, please contact Clare Mason on 01704 547147 or email clare@southportflowershow.co.uk.

Our show gardens are one of our most popular show attractions. 94% of visitors make a bee-line to them to pick up inspiration, ideas and find professionals to help them improve their own gardens at home.

For Landscapers and Garden Designers, August is a great time to do a show garden. Demand is not as frantic as spring time, and with thousands of visitors coming to the show it gives you the perfect opportunity to showcase your work to prospective clients - and say hello to previous clients.

With thanks to C & W Berry Ltd for supplying the sand and cement.

Title: Pathways to Dyslexia
Description:
The Dyslexia Innovators garden explains the journey of a dyslexic person. The pathway on the left of the garden represents a life before diagnosis, with several metaphors representing difficulties experienced. The planting here is a dark colour-scheme. The back of the garden is built up to show a 'head above the clouds' structure, with a large bust placed above a bed of white flowers. This represents the insight and freedom which a diagnosis of dyslexia can bring. The right of the garden represents life post-diagnosis, with a bright colour-scheme and metaphors representing the positive, innovative aspects of dyslexia. The garden has been designed by Dyslexia Innovators, a group of adults with dyslexia, who are based in Liverpool. The garden also showcases the abilities of two of our members, dyslexic landscape gardener Collin Abram and horticulturist Ian Lowe. We recognize that living with this hidden disability brings high levels of stress and anxiety. Dyslexia Innovators aim to bring adults with dyslexia together to reduce symptoms of stress, anxiety and social isolation and promote networks of support through wellbeing events, where people feel safe to share stories and explore strengths.

Title: Una veduta dell'albero d'ulivo (A view of the olive tree)
Description:
C&W Berry Ltd is an independent builders merchant that have traded in the North West for over 60years. We have advertised our business in several ways over the years but decided that this year we would show people what could be achieved using materials available from ourselves. After liaising with one of our top garden design customers Andy Kirman of Kirman Design we came up with, what we think is an excellent interpretation of the design brief: A Mediterranean Garden. This included porcelain paving, shade to eat under the pergola and the introduction of water surrounding an olive tree.

It was then down to working with our suppliers: Global Stone to supply the porcelain paving & Denbigh Timber who took Andy’s vision of a bespoke fence and pergola and made it a reality. In addition Longrake Aggregates supplied suitable stone and with the assistance of Bents Garden Centre (Warrington) the focal point olive tree was sourced.

We hope that visitors to our garden will observe products and designs that will inspire them to look at new and bespoke items and see that all merchants do not offer the same level of product or service.

Title: 999 Strength of MIND
Description:
The Blue Light Walk Team are staff who work for our emergency services. The team are raising funds for MIND the mental health charity & Blue Light Programme, who aim to support the mental wellbeing of our blue light services. Research has shown that 1 in 4 emergency services staff have thought about committing suicide. This has to change.

On the 25th September 2016 the team will be embarking upon a 6 day walk from Scarborough to Blackpool. They will be passing through numerous cities, towns and villages, calling in at Police, Fire, Ambulance and Search and Rescue stations across the country. This is an attempt to raise awareness and offer support to emergency services staff, whilst raising vital funds for the charity.

The team would love everyone to get involved and have opened up the ‘Last Leg’ of the walk. This is a 19.1 mile walk from Broughton Ambulance HQ to Blackpool RNLI to anyone who is interested in supporting this cause. Walkers will be treated to a drink and canapes upon arrival into Blackpool and will able to watch the World Fireworks Championship Final in the evening. The team are also hosting a charity ball at the new AFC Fylde’s football stadium in Wesham near Preston, on the 1st October & we would love your support.

Title: Breathe
Description:
Influenced by Guell Park in Barcelona, the Mediterranean landscapes of green punctuated with trees and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust strap line Life Unlimited, the garden is designed to be enjoyed from a mainly seated position, to be surrounded by plants and to have different vistas depending upon where you are sitting/facing. The vertical garden not only creates a quiet and relaxing space from where the client can look through her garden, but the vertical planting also assists in providing cleaner air, herbs, food, scent and touch. The client is keen on providing pollinator plants for the bees which will encourage birds and wildlife into her garden.

Title: “A Cool Courtyard” – Bare Yard to Courtyard
Description:
A Cool Courtyard is designed to demonstrate a peaceful and relaxing Mediterranean Garden. The theme will:

• Exploit the positive aspects of dry heat while alleviating the different aspects of a hot-spot in the garden balanced by providing some shade.
• Provide a firm, paved surface for seating & outdoor dining
• Provide a safe, moving water feature for cool humidity
• Include readily available, easily grown drought & heat tolerant plants into planters and terracotta pots.

We will then transfer and up-cycle the garden by re-building it after the Show. We will be working with a community group and a team of volunteers at a Community Centre project in Wirral who will then benefit from our Design. Our view is that not all backyards are blessed with ample topsoil and some consist of little more than an area of concrete, tarmac, or a hard-packed mixture of rubble. So, our design will allow visitors at Southport Flower Show to see how we have created a stunning garden by building on what they themselves may have as a bare yard at home. The design uses raised beds for the main plantings and a selection of pots for both permanent and seasonal displays.

Title: The Lost Gardens of Atlantis
Description:
Based on ancient Greek mythology, the garden depicts Atlantis rising from the Mediterranean bringing a fresh start and a new beginning. Water will flow over Poseidon’s feet down the plinth across the mosaics, depicting ancient Greek life. The planting will mirror the water bubbling through the surface and ground cover will represent the waves of change. Seating is a simple bench, while pedestals at different heights display our clients creative work. Fencing is made with colour-washed, reclaimed pallet wood

The garden aims to intrigue and inspire, creating a space that can be achieved with a limited financial budget.
